A friend-cation in Cape Town

Thursday, December 06, 2018

It's been a minute since we came back from our Cape Town trip, when I say we i mean my 3 friends and I . I am still reeling from the 4 days and 3 nights of our much awaited , thoroughly enjoyed trip.
Now let me take you guys back to the 23rd of November, the Friday we almost missed our flight to cape Town.
We were meant to meet up at 14:30 to make our way to the airport. That didn't happen and we only left for the airport just after 15:00 pm. Traffic was at it's peak and we just knew we wouldn't make it in time to check in our bags, get ourselves checked in and all of that. Oh and by the way while we were driving to the airport we realized we missed our online check-in time by at least 15 minutes. What a great way to start this trip.

Somehow we made it Lanseria international Airport and by some stroke of luck we were able to check in and board the plane. The journey was short but long. 2 hours was the most time I have spent on a plane in 1 trip. We got to Cape Town at 19:00pm, an hour before the sun would set. We had to wait for a friend traveling from Durban. Her flight was delayed for 2 hours. Things were not looking up for us that day.
When our friend arrived we quickly made our way to our accommodation. Our uber, which we called our party bus, got us all the way turnt up for groove. The thing had white leather seats, a fur runner by the dashboard. Our driver welcomed us with some cape Town gqom music if there was ever such a thing.

Our apartment was nothing short of amazing. I didn't have crazy expectations but for the price the place was amazing. It was a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment with a balcony. When we got to our place it was around 9pm. We quickly got settled in and started making plans for the night. We went out to long street and partied until we couldn't party no more. We came back in the early hours of the morning and crashed. We woke up to the most beautiful view of the table mountain. It finally kicked in, we were indeed in the cape city.

On Saturday we quickly got ready to get on the city sightseeing bus to go to table mountain. We were meant to do the cable way but it got cancelled due to "weather conditions", such a bore. We didn't stay long there table mountain, we got on the bus and made our way to Camps bay Beach and had such underwhelming cocktails at col'cacchios.

Our next stop was v&a waterfront. I was really excited to be there. We walked around for a while until we stumbled on thier food market. By this time my stomach was ready to be filled with yummy food. By the way before this trip I was on a high fat low carb diet (banting diet) but that quickly went out the window when I got to the colony. I had all sorts of treats at the market, from flat bread with toppings, to brownies, to cannolis. My heart wamis happy, my stomach was full and I was ready for our free boat cruise.

The cruise took about 20 minutes, at this point we were full, sleepy and cold. I really wanted to enjoy the cruise a bit more but the cold breeze wouldn't let me. We saw a couple of seals and some strange birds. We also came across some beautiful, lavish yachts that made me wish i was a trust fund baby with no care in the world.

Right after the cruise we were ready to head home and nap because we were all exhausted. We took a long ass nap woke at 8pm before the sun could set. We had planned on going out but we only managed to make it to Macdonalds and this was at 1pm when the midnight munchies had fully kicked in.

On Sunday we had a a full day planned. First stop was the wine farm.
We got there and quickly started taking pictures because the whole place was picturesque. Green, beautiful vineyards, white buildings, a pond filled with ducks. It was well worth it. We made our way for the cellar tour.

I really thought i would enjoy it but i was bored and i am glad it only lasted for about 10 minutes. We quickly left the cellars and headed to the the actual wine tasting and from there THROATS WERE OPEN. We tasted about 5 dry wines,a mixture of red and white.

We had a quick snack at Simon's deli and left. We left happy, full and tipsy only to be let down by the 2 hour bus ride back to long street. The bus was cold and the roads were winding.
Next up though on our list of activities was Camps bay Beach! We got into our bikinis and headed straight to the beach.
We didn't stay long though because a beach is a beach so there was nothing special to do.

Again we made plans to go out but none of them actually panned out. We ended up having dmcs (deep meaningful conversations) over wine and pasta. I was so tired i fell asleep on the couch. It was our last night in Cape Town.
We had an early Monday morning because we wanted to check out Bo-kaap, the street with the colorful houses. It was so pretty and bright.

We soon left for our flat, collected our luggage and made our way to the airport. I was not sad at all. My heart was full. I had just crossed one item off my long list of resolutions for 2018. I was grateful for such a peaceful, drama free trip.
